Dog’s Play Style

Making the most out of playtime with your pet and supporting your pet dog as they play with other pet dogs involves discovering what type of play your pet dog takes pleasure in.

Some dogs are great at playing by themselves, others require somebody else to engage with them. Some pet dogs like roughhousing, others do not,” discusses Dr. Laurie Bergman, VMD, Diplomate by the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists who works at NorthStar Vets in New Jersey.

“Play need to always be shared, whether it’s with another canine or with an individual. Note if the canine isn’t reacting to play signals. There’s a research study that reveals that pet dogs understand if individuals provide play signals like flexing at the waist and slapping your hands on your knees while dealing with or a little sideways to the dog,” says Dr. Bergman. She encourages that if at any point while playing your pet dog appears nervous or uncomfortable you ought to stop play.

Pay attention to how your dog is engaging to make sure your dog is having fun when you play with your pet dog.
